Week 5

Weeks 5 and 6 were challenging. I was prepared, or so I thought, for week 6 which was the growth spurt week.  The timing was such that it coincided with our first week without visitors as well.

Week 5, however, caught me unaware. Tuesday July 17 was our first very challenging day.  Thankfully your grandparents were still here to help out.  You were refusing to nap and despite my best efforts, you were determined not to rest.  Looking back, I should’ve asked grandma or grandpa to help but I thought it was mine to manage so I did. But it was exhausting!  Finally around 4:15 pm you fell asleep and slept through until bedtime except for 2 times to eat.

Wednesday July 18, grandma came to the rescue!  She sat with you in the glider and sang and rocked you to sleep.  She also tried swaddling you while you were crying and found out it settled you down so I’ve been using that strategy for night as well as day and it seems to help.

Friday July 20 – first day on our own with no grandparents.  We were fortunate to have your dad home for 3 weeks along with your Nan for 2 of those.  Then your TX grandparents for 10 days. Today you napped in your crib for the first time (still sleeping in the bassinet for night time).

Saturday July 21 – I tried the hairdryer to get you to sleep today and it worked! You seem to be establishing a morning nap of 1-3 hours.

Monday July 23 you spent some time with our babysitter for the first time.  I was wondering how learning and being exposed to Mandarin from 5 weeks old will affect your language acquisition?  It’s very exciting that you will have both languages from such a young age.
