Redwood train adventure: June 20, 2014

While SPL was at Pirate Camp, Z and I went on our own adventure to the Santa Cruz mountains to ride the Roaring Railroad narrow-gauge steam locomotive train through the redwoods to the summit of Bear Mountain.

Back in the 1800s, these locomotives were used to haul giant redwood logs out of the mountains. Roaring Camp’s steam engines date from 1890 and are among the oldest and most authentically preserved narrow-gauge steam engines providing regularly scheduled passenger service in America.

It was a beautiful trip lasting 1 hour total.  Amazing to think the stories those old redwoods could tell if they had voices.  Spectacular.
